Look up!
March astronomy outlook

It's a new month and new opportunities for stargazers abound! Here's what to look for in the sky.

March 14 Full Moon

This month's full moon is called the "worm moon". Moonrise and moonset times can vary depending on location, so check the astro function to get these times for your area.

March 14 Lunar Eclipse

Stargazers in North America are in for a treat on March 14. Not only are we seeing a full moon, but also a full lunar eclipse. The moon will appear blood red as the Earth's shadow crosses over it. This is the first full lunar eclipse since November 2022.

March 20 Spring Equinox

Astronomically, spring starts on the spring equinox, when the length of day and night are the same in all parts of the world. The exact date varies slightly each year since it's determined by the Earth's axis and orbit around the sun. This year, the spring equinox falls on March 20.

March 29 Partial Solar Eclipse

Parts of the Northeast will be able to see a partial solar eclipse. A partial solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, but the Sun, Moon, and Earth are not perfectly lined up. Only a part of the Sun will appear covered, giving it a crescent shape.
