Record rain for November
Soggy Florida, but until when?

It’s been a very soggy 24 hours across South Florida. Around 6 inches fell on Sunday across parts of Miami-Dade County, and it continues raining. The National Weather Service rain gauge registered 5.56 inches of rain in a 24-hour period, breaking the previous highest November reading of 4.20 inches of November 9, 2020.

You can blame a stationary front for all the rains received Sunday across Florida. Central Florida received between half to one inch of rain on Sunday, with some isolated spots getting slightly above one inch. Much of the front’s instability has moved south, but there will be a chance for thunderstorms across Central Florida’s east coast through South Florida.

Speaking of South Florida, what a Sunday! It rained all day! This morning the clouds have stayed put, and there have been on-and-off showers. Miami-Dade started registering some flooding on Sunday morning, and the rain continued through the day.

In Broward County, Hollywood, Fla., through 8 a.m. this morning reported 5.87 inches of rain, Plantation, Fla., 5.74 inches. Miami-Dade County’s winner was Coral Gables, with 6.22 inches of rain recorded. North Miami was not too far behind with 5.72 inches.

Rough sea conditions

The seas will be very choppy and dangerous. Winds will be from the northeast up to 20 knots, and seas could be up to 8 feet. Swimmers are advised to stay away from the water, as there is also a high risk of rip currents along the east and west coasts.

The forecast

Our WeatherRadar shows that some rainbands have brought some downpours, but there has been a northward trend for the bands, which gives areas in Miami-Dade County a break.

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible from Brevard County through the Treasure Coast to Miami-Dade, including southwest Florida. The proximity of a stationary front, which will retract northward today, will increase clouds and the chance for downpours to produce between 2 and 3 inches of rain. There will be flooding in some areas, especially those that were greatly affected by the deluge on Sunday.

The weather is going to get the memo though! Luckily the atmosphere will dry up just in time for Thanksgiving and temperatures will be right on par with the average for this time of the year. Miami’s high temperatures will be in the low 80, while the nights will remain in the low 70s.

There will be another front that could slightly increase the rain chances for Friday from north to south throughout the day across the peninsula. Showers will be isolated, but the big change will be in the temperatures. There will be around a 10-degree temperature drop from Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon. Highs for Orlando on Friday will be in the high 60s. For South Florida, the biggest change will be felt in the mornings. Miami will wake up to temperatures in the mid to high 50s on Sunday morning.
