Flip-flop weather setup for Southeast

Don’t let the thermometers fool you! Temperatures will be much cooler than normal across the Deep South on Tuesday and Wednesday, but that will be courtesy of the lingering thick clouds and rain showers.

A stationary front with a couple of low-pressure systems will continue to sit over parts of Southeast and eastern Texas. All this is pulling lots of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and will create those downpours and stormy conditions.

Weather setup for Tuesday and Wednesday across the Southeast.

Rainfall is expected to ease off by Saturday when we expect a high-pressure system to keep the rain chances to a minimum across much of Texas through the Carolinas. Before then, widespread rainfall could reach between 1 to 2 inches, mainly across Mississippi and Alabama, while a bullseye of higher amounts is forecast across Central Mississippi.

Even in the middle of summer, temperatures will be between 10 to 15 degrees below normal. This will put parts of Alabama in the low to mid-80s on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. In fact, on Thursday temperatures will be well below normal, but gradually inching closer to normal values by the weekend.

Florida… is the exception

Temperatures across the Florida Peninsula will continue to be between 1 to 5 degrees above normal. The most worrisome area is Central Florida where they will experience the heat day and night. Cities like Tampa and Melbourne could have minimum temperatures 4 degrees above normal, staying between the upper 70s and low 80s.

The night heat will extend all the way down to South Florida, where the muggy night won’t break. Low temperatures will stay in the low-80s but with the humidity, they could feel as if they were in the mid-80s.

The widespread rain will return to Florida on Saturday as a front tries to make its way over the Peninsula, which will increase clouds, showers, and thunderstorm activity outside of the typical afternoon hours. Through the weekend, up to 3 inches of rain are possible, especially across the interior areas. Isolated spots could receive more than 5 inches of rain.
