Severe weather
Early March triple threat

Severe storms are in the forecast to ring in meteorological spring. The southern Plains, Deep South and East Coast will need to keep a close eye on the WeatherRadar these next three days.

A robust low-pressure system rolling off the Rockies will head eastward on Monday, dragging a cold front that will trigger severe weather in the southern Plains first. For residents in Wichita, Kan., through Oklahoma City and southward through Dallas, severe storms will make their way in during the overnight hours, posing a nocturnal threat.

It can be tough to get weather warnings due to being asleep during these hours. Make sure you have at least three ways to receive the warnings and have your notification volume turned up.

Things become more serious as the storm system heads east. On Tuesday, an enhanced risk has been issued, highlighting the threat for scattered severe storms, including the possibility for multiple tornadoes.

While severe storms could extend all the way up into eastern Kansas and central Missouri, the slight and enhanced risks - levels 2 and 3 out of 5 - include larger metros like Jackson and Memphis, Tenn., Lufkin, Texas, and especially Little Rock, Ark., Greenville and Jackson, Miss., and Alexandria and Shreveport, La.

By Wednesday, this large storm system will be shifting into the East Coast where a large swath of acreage will be covered by a slight risk. Baltimore and Washington, D.C., down to Savannah, Ga., could see isolated to scattered severe weather. This forecast will evolve as we get closer. Be sure to check back here with weather & Radar meteorologists throughout the forecast period for updates.
