Severe weather moves in this weekend

Hail, winds, tornadoes
Severe weather moves in this weekend

Severe weather will push parts of the Central Plains and over the South this weekend.

A storm system is moving toward the Pacific Northwest and will gain more momentum as it dips over the Central portion of the United States this weekend.

Between Saturday afternoon and Sunday, scattered, unorganized severe storms could move into Missouri and far eastern Kansas, causing large hail in Kansas City. Our WeatherRadar shows some storms moving in after 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday, and they will be moving fast.

This same system becomes stronger with more daytime heating and ample moisture from the Gulf, allowing the storms to become linear and more organized for Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. There is a risk of severe weather extending from eastern Texas through the Tennesse Valley, with damaging winds and hail being the primary hazards. Remember that the winds will be favorable for a tornado or two.

The WeatherRadar shows the storm and its front moving from Longview, Texas, through Little Rock by 6 p.m., still scattered. However, by 8 p.m., the storms will be more organized as they approach Memphis and move through northern Louisiana and Mississippi.

This same front will lose its punch as it moves eastward, and a few likely nonsevere storms will push through the Atlanta Metro area on Monday morning and extend over the Florida Panhandle. The center of the low-pressure system will be moving through the eastern portion of the Great Lakes and producing a wet morning community through the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast.
