Texas severe threat, heat moves east

Severe storms are possible across south Texas and the lower Missouri and Mid-Mississippi Valleys today, while showers and storms continue along the West Coast. Above-average temperatures shift east today. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

The WeatherRadar shows an active pattern across the southern Plains today with a potent severe threat over south Texas. Damaging wind, hail, a few tornadoes and flash flooding are concerns in cities like San Antonio and Corpus Christi.

Strong storms may impact two regions today.

Damaging winds and hail are also possible across the lower Missouri and Mid-Mississippi Valleys today. Cities like Omaha, Neb., Des Moines, Iowa, Kansas City, Mo., St. Louis and Peoria, Ill., should be on alert for strong storms.

Above-average temperatures move east, with record highs possible in the Rockies. Rain will keep temperatures cooler along the West Coast and in south Texas, while cooler-than-average air lingers in the Northeast.
