Through Friday
Winter wonderland for the Rockies

Snow has been falling in the northern Rockies since Monday afternoon as a new storm begins to dive south. At least some snow will touch every portion of the Rocky Mountain Range from Idaho and Montana to New Mexico through Friday.

The WeatherRadar has been showing heavy snow showers in the northern Rockies since the early morning hours. A mix of rain and snow has reached the central Rockies as of this afternoon and snow will continue to become widespread. Montana looked like a snow globe this morning as big flakes accumulated.

As the snow fell this morning on Election Day, many standing in poll lines likely had snow boots and winter coats keeping them warm, aside from likely having to take it slow on the slushy roadways.

A strong low-pressure trough dropping into the western U.S. is the main driver of this snow machine. Cold air diving south is setting the stage for snow to fall through the rest of the Range through the very end of the week.

The highest totals are expected in the southern Rockies of southeastern Colorado and northern New Mexico where 18 inches are possible through Thursday night. Two feet of snow are possible in the southern Rockies at elevations more than 8,500 feet too as this storm is expected to sit over the southern Rockies area for some time.
