Breakfast brief
West Coast heat, Northeast snow

Record heat builds in across the West Coast today. Lingering snow will continue across the Great Lakes and interior Northeast. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

The TemperatureRadar shows above-average temperatures across much of the country today, with only the Great Lakes, interior Northeast and Ohio Valley experiencing below-average highs. A broad ridge of high pressure will keep many warm for this time of year.

The TemperatureRadar shows above-average temperatures for much of the country.

Record, or near-record, highs are possible today in cities like Seattle, Portland, Ore., Sacramento and Bakersfield, Calif., Phoenix and Dallas.

While the West Coast and South will be rain-free today, a few showers are possible across the Ohio Valley. Low pressure north of the Great Lakes will bring a few snow showers to the northern Great Lakes and interior Northeast.

A few showers may also traverse the northern and central Plains along a front associated with the low pressure swirling north of the Great Lakes.

The news we are covering

  • Record Highs for the West Coast and Texas.
  • Snow showers in the Great Lakes and interior Northeast.
