Daily briefing
Soggy Northeast

Both summer and autumn weather will be found across the U.S. as September's first work week ends. These details, along with our daily tropical outlook, are published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

Another autumn cold front following on the heels of another one that rolled across the East Thursday will become nearly stationary from the southern Plains and Mid-South northeastward into New England today. The WeatherRadar shows showers and a few thunderstorms developing the length of the front.

Friday cold frontA second cold front of the week will slide across central Plains and the Northeast today.

It feel like autumn north of the front. The TemperatureRadar shows highs only in the 60s across the Midwest and central Plains, with Minneapolis and the northern Plains only reaching the upper 50s.

Flipping the script, it will feel like summer across the immediate East Coast, the Southeast, South, Gulf Coast and Texas. Highs will be in the 80s, with 90s and a few triple digits in Texas.

The summer temperature trend continues across the West. Highs will be in the 80s and 90s from the Rockies to the Pacific. A few afternoon thunderstorms will be possible across the Southwest and the Rockies, so watch the WeatherRadar for the latest.

Tropical Update

A tropical wave continues to move west over the east-central Atlantic. Additional development is likely over the next several days as it remains far from land.
