Daily Briefing
Cooler air sticks around for many

Cooler-than-average temperatures continue across much of the country, with only the Pacific Northwest and northern tier experiencing warmer-than-average highs. Monsoonal moisture continues for the western half of the country. These details, along with our daily tropical outlook, are published every weekday at 5 a.m. ET.

Monsoonal moisture continues to bring a flood threat to the Southwest and into the Rockies. Showers and storms will also dot the southern Plains today. Flash flooding will be possible today in cities like Boise, Idaho, Denver, Colo., Wichita, Kan., and Oklahoma City.

The WeatherRadar also shows a few showers in the northern Great Lakes, southern and central Texas, as well as in Florida. Temperatures will be the big story for much of the eastern two-thirds of the country.

Cooler-than-average temperatures are expected to persist across much of the country, offering a welcome taste of fall. Morning lows in the 40s and 50s may even break low temperature records across parts of the Ohio Valley and Mid-South. Cities like Fort Wayne, Ind., Cincinnati and Lexington, Ky., could see new record lows.

The TemperatureRadar shows a nice day for many, with highs in the 70s for Minneapolis and Chicago. Comfortable highs near 80 are in place for Memphis, Tenn., and Atlanta.

Tropical Update

Tropical Storm Fernand will stay at tropical storm strength today before dissipating later this week. It remains no threat to land.
