Active West, another Plains severe round

Breakfast brief
Active West, another Plains severe round

The WeatherRadar shows one system exiting the east, while the West remains active with several systems affecting the Rockies and West Coast. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

Another system enters the northern Plains, which is expected to ignite another round of severe weather that will start the severe threat across the Plains and Ozarks. Some isolated severe storms could occur from western Illinois through northern Texas, with the chance for a few strong tornadoes across eastern Kansas.

Sveere storms during the evening will likely affect eastern Kansas.

This same system will move eastward and increase the threat of several strong tornadoes from the southern Great Lakes through much of Arkansas, northern Louisiana, and northeastern Texas. It will grow in size and intensity for Wednesday.

Tuesday will be active across the West since the early morning hours. The Sierra will experience heavy snowfall, with up to 4 feet of snow in the Sierra and northern Cascades. Visibilities will be reduced, and road closures will be in effect. Travel is discouraged.

Periods of heavy snow and strong winds will occur across the Rockies through Tuesday night. Strong winds will impact areas south of I-70, where gusts could reach at least 60 mph, elevating the fire risk across southern Colorado. The highest peaks could receive over a foot of snow.

The news we are covering

  • Severe threat over the Plains
  • Heavy snow for the Sierra and Rockies
