Rain, snow for Pacific NW, Great Lakes

Breakfast brief
Rain, snow for Pacific NW, Great Lakes

The hose continues to be turned on across the Pacific Northwest, with plenty of showers and mountain snow to finish the week from the coast through the northern Rockies. Another weak front and system will move through the Great Lakes on Friday. The Breakfast Brief is published daily, Monday through Friday, at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.

There is plenty of moisture coming onshore across the Pacific Northwest, and the rainy stretch continues throughout the weekend as a series of storms move through. There could be some isolated areas that could get up to 5 inches of rain along the coast and this could produce some flooding.

A weaker low-pressure system and front will be moving through the Great Lakes area. There will be some rain showers for much of the Great Lakes areas passing by, and some snow showers for the northern portion of this region near the Canadian border. Our WindRadar shows increasing winds in the afternoon and gusts could surpass 45 mph in the Chicago area.

For Florida, cooler and drier weather sets camp on Friday. The cold front that exit the peninsula overnight will allow a rush of cooler and dry air to take over. Marine conditions will be dangerous on Friday with strong gusts, high seas and rough surf. There are also high rip current risks along both coasts. Please swim near a lifeguard.

Fire danger will also continue along much of Florida. Over 20,000 acres have burns in the Homestead area, and the smoke has prompted the closure of US 1. Meteorologist Mary Mays wrote this note and created a video about the wildfire burning in this area. Read more about this here.
