What's the deal?
Drought covers almost all of the U.S.

Unless you're located in North Carolina, chances are, you're area is in some type of drought or it is nearby.

Almost the whole U.S. is in some type of abnormally dry or drought condition as of Tuesday, October 15 in the latest update from the drought monitor. A combination of quiet skies and abnormally warm temperatures has brought on either new or worsening drought for many across the CONUS. Look on the WeatherRadar! You might be under the sunny cloudless skies of the dominating eastern high-pressure system today.

We recently had hurricanes Helene and Milton, which have kept Florida and North Carolina far from drought, but even their neighboring states have been watching rain fall elsewhere on the WeatherRadar.

The worst drought conditions sit in the southern Plains, the High Plains and the lower Ohio River Valley. These locations have the top two worst drought conditions of extreme or exceptional drought. In these three locations, have had almost zero precipitation in the last two weeks. In the last 24 hours, the southern Plains and southern Rockies had extensive heavy, even flooding rainfall, but not where it was needed most in far western Texas.

Are we in for a change? Long-term models show little to no budging of the warm, dry streak for the eastern two-thirds especially, but we could see a change at the turn of the month. For any rainfall updates, keep your eyes on your local forecast!
