Breakfast Brief
Storms linger from Texas to New York

Showers and storms fire up along a front that stretches from Texas to New York. A few strong storms will likely be in the mix, especially in central Texas. Well-above-average temperatures will impact the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The Breakfast Brief is published Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The WeatherRadar shows showers and storms along a front, stretching from Texas to New York. While a few strong storms are possible along this line, Central Texas has the best chances of severe weather today. Damaging winds and hail are possible from Fort Stockton to Waco, Texas.

Severe storms are possible across central Texas.

Soaking rain will be an issue from Texas into parts of northwestern Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma and southern Arkansas. Up to 3 inches of rain is expected on Friday, with some spots picking up more locally. Flash flooding may occur.

The western half of the country will remain mostly dry through the day today. However, a Pacific system will bring rain to cities like Seattle and Portland, Ore., tonight into Saturday morning. If you have evening plans, keep an eye on the WeatherRadar.

Temperatures will be well-above-average today throughout much of the Northwest, Northeast and into the Mid-Atlantic. Cities like Boise, Idaho, Washington, D.C., and New York City will warm into the 80s today. Cooler-than-average highs are in place from the Southern Plains into the Upper Midwest.
